The family of the late J. Bill Becker has donated his papers (books, newspaper editorials, personal notes, newspaper articles, professional correspondence, personal information and photographs) to the UCA Archives.
Becker, who died in December, 1997, was president of the Arkansas American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) from 1964 to 1996. Jimmy Bryant, UCA Archives director, said about Becker:
Mr. Becker was a very powerful labor leader and had significant political clout. Politicians viewed his endorsement as being critically important to their campaigns.
Bryant said the Becker papers, after being processed, should be available for researchers in late 2016 or early 2017.
