♦  Albert Williams of near Mount Vernon is in the city today. Mr. Williams says crops are turning out well in his vicinity. J. T. Hogan of Mount Vernon has already ginned over 1,000 bales of cotton.

75 YEARS AGO, October 18, 1941

♦  Lewis Robins, 29, who was inducted into army service at Conway just five days before the selective service act deferring men of 28 or over became a law four months ago, has been discharged and is expected to arrive home tonight from Camp Callan, San Diego, Calif., where he was in training. He is a son of Mrs. W. L. Robins of this city. His position as salesman at the Fair store has been held for him and he will return to work there immediately, it was said

50 YEARS AGO, October 18, 1966

♦  Faulkner County will have a record number of eligible votes for the Nov. 8 general election. Deputies at the office of County Clerk L. J. (Leaster) Merritt said today the number totaled 12,708 when the deadline for registration for next month’s election came at midnight. It is necessary to register 20 days beforehand to be eligible to vote in any election in Arkansas if a voter had not previously registered.
