“Black Political Engagement in Arkansas:” Symposium

The Department of Arkansas Heritage along with the Black History Commission and the Arkansas State Archives will host a symposium on February 4 from 10:00 to 3:00 at the Mosaic Cultural Templar Center. The theme is “Black Political Engagement in Arkansas” and speakers will be Dr.John Graves, Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, Elmer Beard and R. J. Hampton. Continue reading

“Heroes of Arkansas Folk Music” on July 30

A concert and seminar honoring Arkansas’s folk music heroes, Patsy Montana, Jimmy Driftwood and Almeda Riddle, is set for Saturday, July 30. Sponsored by the Arkansas State Archives, the event will be held at their headquarters in Room 4A, One Capital Mall, Little Rock.

Registration is required but admission is free. Check in at 8:30. Light breakfast refreshments will be served to those who register by July 25. Continue reading

“Old Time Music & Dance” Set for March 8

“Old Time Music & Dance” will be the theme of the Faulkner County Historical Society’s annual program for the public on March 8 at 6:00 PM at the Faulkner County Library.

David and Donna Peterson will play traditional, ragtime and old popular music on lap dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, and guitar, augmented with a demonstration of various period dances: clogging, polka, waltz, ragtime, square, and Cajun.
